Education Expenses

Thanks for taking the time to check out our fundraiser! It’s been a crazy couple years getting our head above water as John builds his business. We’re still working toward paying off debt and rebuilding our savings after he didn’t receive income for a year. We also have some huge expenses coming in the next few weeks including a new furnace, girls dance tuition ($2k/year) and we have two large trees to remove in our yard that were killed by those ash beetles. Now with the school year starting up again soon, we’ve been bombarded with tuition bills and education expenses for the girls. Their homeschool music classes are $650/year, homeschool science classes are $500/year and curriculum & school supplies are at least going to be $500 this year. We also Iike to include them in extras like Spanish at the Y and some online classes to keep their education well rounded. We’re asking for financial contributions for Charlotte and Madelyn’s education expenses. We would appreciate any amount you can help with but please don’t feel obligated. We know homeschooling isn’t always the easiest or cheapest opinion but we know it is worth it, especially for such brilliant kiddos;)

2nd Grade Learning Aids + Supplies

I am thrilled to be a new 2nd grade teacher at my school which is a local Title 1 school in Charleston, South Carolina with over 90% of students living in poverty. This school year, I know that my students will come in eager to learn but are in dire need of resources such as manipulatives, aids, and skill building activities.

Previous testing results from 2017 show that from 2nd grade, only 16.3% in math and 4.3% in reading met the expectations for their grade level. I anticipate having at least 20 children in my class this year. Although it is likely that these students are struggling academically, the materials donated through Donorschoose will help them excel and grasp the difficult subjects that they will so desperately want to understand.

Together, we can show my students just how many people believe in them and want them to succeed. These sweet kids need cheerleaders to stand on the sidelines and cheer them on to their full potential!

For my fundraiser, I have requested funds to purchase many various materials, supplies, and manipulatives such as: guided reading books, word + number building blocks and cubes, foam shapes and letters, markers, and more. With these, my classroom will be enabled to become a hands-on, print rich, exciting learning environment. Also, these funds will help provide a welcoming, comfortable, engaging physical environment where my students will safe and excited to come to each and every day.

As the teacher of my classroom, it is my job to ensure that my students come to a classroom where they feel loved and have an equal opportunity to learn and grow.

With books on their level, materials and manipulatives to help them understand, and the supplies they need, my students will be given the opportunity to soar academically.

Classroom manipulatives and games are used to gain a child’s attention and keep them engaged in active learning. With the requested donations, learning can be done independently, with guided practice, or in collaborative groups. Manipulative use is recommended because it is supported by both learning theory and educational research in the classroom.

Regardless of the challenges faced outside of school, my classroom will be a place where students come to feel safe, loved, and confident in their ability to learn. With your donations, these children will be able to do just that.

Thank you in advance for your generosity,

Miss Elieff
