Here in our village, it is rare to see people wearing glasses. It’s not that vision is so much better here, it’s just that going to the eye doctor requires travelling from the village to town, which is a hardship. Then add to that the cost of the examination and glasses, most in our community just cannot manage, therefore they just do without. That is something that is hard for me to imagine as I am legally blind without corrective lenses.
We recently had the opportunity to have a local mission hospital send a team to Mercy Home for eye examinations at a discounted cost. The examinations have been paid for, but 9 children and our social worker Dorothy were all identified as needing glasses. We took the 10 of them to the hospital this past Tuesday to pick out frames. For the 10 of them, we paid $480. Very reasonable, but we had to borrow this money from our Neema Christian Academy school buildings fund because we did not have the medical funds to pay for it.
If you are able to help us pay back that money, any amount helps. Thank you and God bless!
