During the past year and a half, The Vulnerable People Project (VPP) has been supporting thousands of Christian and other minority families who had fled to the Nuba Mountains from the brutal civil war in Sudan. VPP works primarily with Persecution Project Foundation, a group that works directly on the ground with the Christians in Sudan.

Right now, there is an ongoing ethnically targeted killing spree perpetrated by the SAF in Khartoum, specifically against people of the Nuba ethnic group.

Thousands have been killed in the past few weeks; our contacts on the ground know of 700 civilians from one Nuban community in Khartoum who have been killed in the past few days. In the next one month, the window for immigration is closing. This is a desperate, time-sensitive situation. The Persecution Project is able to evacuate people using buses at the approximate cost of $300 per person. Costs are continuing to rise because of the danger of the escape route. This is just one example of videos sent to us from people on the ground of the genocide.

At the same time, more than one million Nuba Christians fled Khartoum back to the Nuba mountains in 2024, but now more than 300 children are dying PER DAY of starvation in the Nuba mountain region. VPP’s partners, The Persecution Project, are operating a therapeutic feeding program at Tujor Hospital and Gegaiba Referal Hospital as well as five remote field clinics and refugee settlements. When the rainy season begins in May, most of the roads reaching these clinics will be closed, and funds are needed now to ensure feeding supplies can be ordered and delivered before the roads are impassable.

Project Budget:

-       $300/person to evacuate Nuba Christians from Khartoum to the Nuba mountains - $150,000 to evacuate 500 people ASAP by bus

-       $100/child therapeutic food and medical care for children, pregnancy women, and breastfeeding mothers experiencing severe wasting as a result of starvation. Rainy season starting, which means roads will be temporarily closed and we can’t reach the hospitals and clinics – treating 1,000 patients for one month will be $100,000

Total proposal budget: $250,000
