My Dear Generous people
Please forgive me for relating to you
the difficulties and problems that I am facing in my life in order to seek your
precious help.
My name is Matthew Louis, aged 42
years, resident of Murdeshwar temple town, Uttar Kannada, Karnataka. INDIA I am a
physically challenged person with severe physical disabilities. I was born as a
normal child, but at the age of 5, I had a poliovirus attack which left me with
serious defect of paralysed hands and feet. I am unable to stand with my
partially developed legs and cannot also use my hands fully. I cannot lift my
right hand as it is fully paralysed. My partially active left hand, which helps
me to move by resting my body on the ground and dragging it from one place to
the other in a sitting position. If I have to sit in a chair to do my work,
someone has to physically lift me and put me on to the chair in front of my
computer-work table.
In spite of the physical deformities,
by the grace of God,I have managed to Pass 10th Std. Examination conducted by
the Secondary Board of Education,Govt of Karnataka. Thereafter I have pursued
my studies in Computer education and obtained a post-graduate Diploma (PGDCA) from
MICE, Manipal, Karnataka. God has also blessed me with an aptitude for
Commercial arts which combined with the knowledge of computer applications; I
am able to make a humble living as a self-employed, renting a road-side office premises
for the past 17 years. At this point, life seemed very good, I was able to
stand on my own feet at least economically. I was also able to devote much of
my spare time in my local Church Parish and make myself available to the needs
of the Parish with computer related jobs for the Parish. I also volunteer to devote
one-hour every week for teaching catechism to the parish children for the past
17 years.
The tragedy of my life began in the
year 2017. Beside computer desktop related services, I have been doing label
printing jobs with the help of a sticker-cutting machine I purchased with my own
resources. I was also taking orders for making number-plates for motor vehicles
and getting it executed through the manufacturers from other places, such as
Mangalore and Bengaluru earning a small margin, which I carried on for few
months. Since the orders were on the rise, I decided to manufacture the same on
my own. I purchased the Hydraulic embossing machine with the help of the
Government of Karnataka’s Chief Minister Self–employment scheme(CMEGP) which
aims at creating opportunities in the state, I purchased the machine costing
9.5 lakhs by obtaining the loan of 10 lakh from SBI, Murdeshwar in the year 2017,
I also received the government subsidy of 25 percent. I began the work of
making number plates for the vehicles, my work was going on smoothly, I was
able to pay the loan-instalments on time. I had taken the loan under the
government self-employment scheme. The Government of Karnataka, RTO had granted
me the number-plate manufacturing license in the year 2018.Unfortunately, the same
was cancelled by them in the following year, for the reason that their policy
of granting it to various individuals to manufacture the number plates, changed
to give it to one single firm located in Bangalore and Delhi in the year 2019
for HSRP. The Government was gracious in creating this opportunity for me to
make a living and withdrew the same, in the course of few months, leaving me in
a totally distressed situation. I’m now absolutely helpless. To make the matter
worst, covid-19 pandemic lockdown shattered my work completely. No earning for
almost two years. I also suffered from the adverse effect of Covid 19 vaccination
and was hospitalized for about a month. I had to pay heavy hospital bills. With
much difficulty I have paid back about Bank Loan Rs. 4.40,560 out of 10 lakh loan amount.
The present outstanding amount with 4 years intrest to be paid is about 11 lakhs.
` Beside which, the repayment of gold-loan
that I had taken as a working-capital and to repay the instalment for the SBI
machine loan is amounting to Rs. 7.10 lakhs. The same has to be repaid along
with the interest of 4.10 lakhs. This has been another huge burden that I am
faced with. The bank has served me the notice for auctioning the gold of my
widowed mother, which I had pledged to obtain the gold loan.
two year ago, I also got a girl who
willingly came forward to marry me in spite of my physical disability, in a
sheer spirit of sacrifice for which I am grateful to God.
