The Dominican Teaching Sisters of Fanjeaux opened The Holy Name of Jesus Academy in 2007, with the purchase of an old public school building in Massena, New York.  Since then, the Sisters have not only been cultivating the souls of tomorrow's women to be a leaven of the Gospel no matter their milieu, but also renovating and building.

The Sisters, dedicated volunteers, and construction crews built a dormitory building (2011) and a Romanesque-style chapel (2016), while doing enough to get by in the classroom building.

The 1950's elementary school building was designed for warmer climates than that of Northern New York, and needs so much work!  The renovations have been ongoing: four out of five roofs replaced, walls and windows in one and a half out of four wings, heat in one wing, a kitchen, the gym ceiling, are just the beginning...

Generous helpers of St. Joseph have enabled the Sisters to do these projects.  Others they have been obliged to continue, without having the funds.  They currently need to raise approximately $350,000, as soon as possible, to pay the final bills for the roof replaced last October and nearly finished this spring, for the boilers, and for the adjacent jobs.

In order to continue the needed projects, such as replacing the fifth and last roof; installing lighting, ceilings, and weather-resistant brick; and building a security fence, the Sisters are trying to raise $1,000,000 by September.

The school and its families have taken a hard hit from the aftermath of the Covid lockdowns and the current economic climate...but the Sisters and the children need to be free to concentrate on teaching and education, rather than damage control and mopping up leaks.

Any gift would help immensely, and be rewarded a hundredfold. Monthly Masses and daily prayers are offered for the Academy's benefactors.

Thank you, and God bless you!
