THE NEWMAN INSTITUTE FOR CLASSICAL EDUCATION
OUR MISSION
The Newman Institute for Classical Education was born out of the ardent desire and great need to contribute to forming families, dioceses, Catholic schools and universities in Brazil. Drawing on the experience of the liberal arts universities in the United States, we offer courses and intellectual retreats for students to study and discuss the Great Books. Classes are taught using the Socratic Method and are based on the reading of primary sources.
WHERE WILL YOUR MONEY GO TO?
Scholarships Fund for the Intellectual Retreat
The Newman Institute is organizing a 6-day intellectual retreat that will be held January 3-8, 2024 in Florianopólis, Brazil. For many students, it is the first time they will participate in a Socratic method discussion and analyse classical authors, such as Aristotle, Plato, Euclid, Aeschylus, St. Thomas Aquinas, Kant, Fabre, and Saint John Henry Newman, among others. In addition to classes, they will enjoy a day trip to visit cultural sites, churches, and the beach. We are also offering a wide range of activities, including dancing, a talent show, a game night, and a wine and cheese party. Holy Mass (Usus Antiquior) will be celebrated daily.
Total cost of attendance: $ 600 (six hundred dollars) per student. It includes room and board, trips and books/supplies.
Unfortunately, most applicants do not have the financial conditions to pay for tuition. This is the reason we are asking for your generous support. Please remember that any SMALL donation will help!
Information on how our May 2023 Intellectual Retreat went can be found here.
Observation:
90% of donations to this fund will be used for scholarships.
10% of donations to this fund will be used for other purposes, such as translations, marketing, and other administrative work.
